The Guangzhou Oceanarium in Guangdong is one of LEYU’s important large-scale acrylic engineering projects, demonstrating how ultra-thick acrylic panels can be manufactured, processed, installed, and integrated into complex modern oceanarium architecture.

For LEYU, this was not simply a project involving the supply of acrylic sheets. LEYU undertook the Guangzhou Oceanarium upgrade project and was responsible for the customized production and engineering implementation of the core acrylic viewing systems.

The project officially started in 2023. LEYU simultaneously began the customized production and preliminary preparation of the core acrylic viewing panels. By February 2024, the acrylic viewing panels had completed sealing and hydrostatic pressure testing and entered the water commissioning and marine-life stocking stage. The upgraded Guangzhou Oceanarium officially opened to the public on June 25, 2024.

For LEYU, the Guangzhou Oceanarium is an important demonstration of its ability to provide complete acrylic engineering solutions for large aquariums and oceanariums.

The project combines flat viewing windows, curved underwater tunnels, large performance pools, panoramic viewing walls, cylindrical tanks, and irregularly shaped exhibition tanks. These applications involve different water depths, different hydrostatic pressure conditions, and different architectural requirements. LEYU therefore developed customized ultra-thick acrylic components for each exhibition area.

This makes the Guangzhou Oceanarium more than a beautiful marine attraction. It is also a practical LEYU case showing how large acrylic engineering can support modern oceanarium design.

LEYU Builds Large Acrylic Aquarium Systems, Not Just Acrylic Sheets

When an architect or developer searches for a Large Acrylic Aquarium, they are usually looking for more than a transparent material supplier.

A large public aquarium requires a complete engineering solution.

The acrylic viewing system must work together with the surrounding concrete or steel structure, water body, sealing system, visitor area, transportation route, lifting equipment, and construction schedule.

For this reason, LEYU approaches large aquarium projects from an engineering perspective.

The LEYU process can cover:

  • Acrylic panel casting and forming

  • Ultra-thick acrylic panel production

  • Precision polishing

  • Thermal processing

  • Curved acrylic forming

  • Large-panel seamless joining

  • Factory quality inspection

  • Protective transportation

  • On-site lifting

  • Precision positioning

  • Sealing

  • Hydrostatic pressure testing

  • Installation support

  • Maintenance

  • After-sales service

The Guangzhou Oceanarium project included different types of acrylic structures and complex hydrostatic pressure conditions. LEYU provided an integrated full-process engineering solution from acrylic manufacturing to final pressure-resistance acceptance testing.

This is the key difference between a standard acrylic supplier and a company experienced in large aquarium engineering.

The Guangzhou Oceanarium: A LEYU-Built Acrylic Engineering Case

The renovated Guangzhou Oceanarium has a total floor area of approximately 19,958.82 square meters and includes four themed exhibition zones: Rainforest Exploration, Fantasy Realm, Spirit Bay, and Future Ocean.

The venue contains more than 300 marine species and approximately 10,000 marine animals. LEYU customized ultra-thick acrylic components according to the water volume, exhibition function, and different hydrostatic pressure conditions of each zone.

This project gave LEYU the opportunity to apply several different acrylic technologies within one oceanarium.

LEYU Acrylic Applications in the Guangzhou Oceanarium

Exhibition Area Main Aquarium Application LEYU Acrylic Engineering
Rainforest Exploration 188 m³ Sea Turtle Pool Large floor-to-ceiling flat acrylic viewing walls
Fantasy Realm Coral and Jellyfish Exhibits 18 m coral viewing corridor, curved windows and cylindrical tanks
Spirit Bay 4,000 m³ Dolphin Performance Pool Customized panoramic acrylic viewing wall
Future Ocean Beluga, Ocean and Shark Pools Ultra-thick pressure-resistant acrylic viewing panels
Future Ocean 360° Cyber Underwater Tunnel Curved thermal forming and seamless joining
Multiple Areas Irregular Exhibition Tanks Customized acrylic components
Entire Project Large Acrylic Viewing Systems Manufacturing, processing, transportation, installation and testing

Rainforest Exploration: LEYU’s Large Acrylic Viewing Wall

The Rainforest Exploration area includes a 188 m³ sea turtle pool and a ray interactive viewing area.

For this outdoor exhibition zone, LEYU customized large floor-to-ceiling flat acrylic viewing walls.

The acrylic panels were designed for an outdoor environment with temperature fluctuations, while providing aging resistance, uniform light transmission, and very low optical distortion. Visitors can observe green sea turtles and rays through the transparent viewing windows at close range.

From an engineering perspective, this application demonstrates how large acrylic viewing panels can be used to create an open and visually continuous connection between visitors and aquatic environments.

The viewing wall becomes part of the architecture rather than simply a window installed in the side of a pool.

This approach is increasingly important for modern Large Acrylic Aquarium projects, where the visitor experience is an essential part of the architectural design.

Fantasy Realm: 18-Meter Coral Viewing Corridor

The Fantasy Realm exhibition area focuses on jellyfish and coral reef species.

Its signature attraction is an approximately 18-meter-long coral viewing corridor, combined with uniquely shaped cylindrical tanks and curved viewing windows.

LEYU supplied high-precision, finely polished acrylic panels for this area.

The polishing quality is particularly important for marine-life displays because lighting, water movement, and acrylic surfaces can all influence the final viewing experience.

The project uses precision-polished acrylic panels to minimize optical distortion caused by light refraction and to help reproduce the natural colors of the underwater environment.

This demonstrates another important advantage of customized acrylic engineering: the material can be manufactured into different geometries while maintaining the visual transparency required for marine-life exhibitions.

Spirit Bay: LEYU’s 4,000 m³ Dolphin Pool Acrylic Viewing Wall

Spirit Bay is centered around a 4,000 m³ dolphin performance pool.

A water volume of this scale creates substantial hydrostatic loads, making the viewing system a critical part of the project.

LEYU customized a panoramic acrylic viewing wall for the dolphin pool, balancing structural requirements with the visual experience of visitors.

Through the transparent viewing wall, visitors can observe bottlenose dolphins jumping and interacting in the water.

The acrylic viewing system helps reduce the visual barrier between visitors and marine animals and creates a more immersive viewing experience.

The exhibition area also includes acrylic viewing windows along the sea turtle corridor, connecting different visitor routes within the exhibition area.

For LEYU, the dolphin pool demonstrates how ultra-thick acrylic panels can become a major architectural element in a large marine performance environment.

Future Ocean: The Core LEYU Acrylic Engineering Area

Future Ocean is the core indoor exhibition zone of the Guangzhou Oceanarium.

It includes:

  • A 1,400 m³ beluga pool

  • A 1,200 m³ ocean pool

  • A 190 m³ shark pool

  • A 360° Cyber Underwater Tunnel

These large water volumes create demanding hydrostatic pressure conditions.

LEYU supplied ultra-thick pressure-resistant acrylic viewing panels and completed the curved thermal forming of the tunnel, seamless joining of oversized panels, precision on-site lifting and installation, and comprehensive hydrostatic pressure testing.

This is one of the most technically significant parts of the Guangzhou Oceanarium project.

The curved tunnel allows visitors to move through the underwater environment while schools of fish swim around them.

At the beluga and shark viewing windows, visitors can stand directly in front of the large viewing panels and observe these marine animals at close range.

The result is an immersive underwater environment created through the combination of architecture, water, marine life, lighting, and LEYU acrylic engineering.

Ultra-Thick Acrylic Panels: The Core Product Behind the Project

For LEYU, Ultra-Thick Acrylic Panels are the foundation of large aquarium engineering.

Large oceanariums require acrylic components that are significantly different from conventional aquarium sheets.

The final acrylic configuration depends on the project requirements, including:

  • Water depth

  • Viewing-window dimensions

  • Structural support

  • Installation conditions

  • Panel geometry

  • Curvature

  • Hydrostatic pressure

  • Joining requirements

  • Applicable engineering standards

Therefore, the correct acrylic solution should be developed as part of the overall engineering design.

LEYU's Guangzhou Oceanarium project demonstrates this principle clearly.

Different areas of the oceanarium required different acrylic structures because the water volumes, viewing functions, shapes, and installation conditions were not the same.

The project therefore used a combination of flat viewing windows, curved structures, large panoramic viewing walls, underwater tunnels, cylindrical tanks, and irregular exhibition tanks.

LEYU’s Acrylic Manufacturing and Processing Capability

A large aquarium project cannot be completed with a simple sheet-cutting process.

The acrylic components must be produced with controlled dimensions and carefully processed surfaces.

For the Guangzhou Oceanarium, LEYU provided a complete process including acrylic casting and forming, precision polishing, thermal processing, seamless joining, on-site lifting and positioning, sealing, and final pressure-resistance acceptance testing.

This process allows LEYU to handle projects where large acrylic components need to meet both visual and engineering requirements.

Large Acrylic Component Installation: Where Engineering Experience Matters

Large acrylic components can be extremely difficult to install.

The Guangzhou Oceanarium project involved significant challenges related to available site space, lifting precision, sealing processes, and coordination with the overall construction schedule.

LEYU's project team coordinated factory quality inspection, professional protective transportation, and precise on-site alignment and joining to overcome the challenges associated with large components.

This is why large aquarium acrylic should be considered an engineering system.

A panel can be manufactured perfectly at the factory, but if it is not transported correctly, lifted correctly, positioned accurately, and sealed correctly, the final project may not achieve the required result.

LEYU therefore considers manufacturing, transportation, and installation as connected stages of one project.

LEYU Packaging: PE Protective Film, KT Board Wooden Crates and Iron Frames

After production and inspection, acrylic panels need appropriate protection before transportation.

LEYU uses PE protective film on acrylic surfaces before shipment to reduce the risk of scratches, dust, and surface contamination during handling and transportation.

Depending on project requirements, LEYU can also use:

  • KT board protection

  • Wooden crates

  • Iron-frame packaging

For standard acrylic components, KT board and wooden crate packaging can provide practical protection during transportation.

For oversized, heavy, or specially shaped acrylic components, an iron frame can provide additional external support.

If an iron frame is required, the packaging solution should be confirmed before shipment according to:

  • Acrylic panel dimensions

  • Panel weight

  • Transportation method

  • Truck or container requirements

  • Loading method

  • Unloading conditions

  • Lifting requirements

  • Project site conditions

This packaging process is especially important for a Large Acrylic Aquarium project because oversized acrylic components can be difficult to replace once they arrive at the construction site.

LESHENG: Customized Installation, Maintenance and After-Sales Service

A large aquarium project does not end when the acrylic panels are delivered.

For customers who require additional project support, LESHENG can provide customized installation, maintenance, technical coordination, and after-sales service.

Installation support can include:

  • Acrylic lifting

  • Positioning

  • Alignment

  • Joining

  • Sealing coordination

  • Site installation support

  • Technical communication with the construction team

For long-term operation, maintenance is also important.

Acrylic viewing surfaces should be cleaned using suitable procedures and materials to help preserve the surface finish and visual quality.

For large public aquariums, oceanariums, marine museums, hotels, resorts, and other commercial aquatic projects, professional maintenance and after-sales support can help operators maintain the long-term appearance and performance of their acrylic viewing systems.

This makes LEYU and LESHENG's project support capabilities particularly valuable for international customers who require more than a material-only supply.

Why LEYU Is a Strong Partner for Custom Acrylic Aquarium Projects

A successful Custom Acrylic Aquarium project requires more than choosing a transparent panel.

It requires a supplier capable of understanding the relationship between:

Acrylic Material + Water Pressure + Structural Design + Manufacturing + Optical Quality + Installation + Sealing + Testing

LEYU's Guangzhou Oceanarium case demonstrates experience across this complete chain.

The project included:

  • Large flat viewing windows

  • Floor-to-ceiling acrylic walls

  • Curved viewing panels

  • 18-meter coral viewing corridor

  • 4,000 m³ dolphin pool viewing wall

  • 1,400 m³ beluga pool

  • 1,200 m³ ocean pool

  • 190 m³ shark pool

  • 360° underwater tunnel

  • Cylindrical tanks

  • Irregularly shaped exhibition tanks

The combination of these applications makes the Guangzhou Oceanarium an important LEYU acrylic engineering case.

International customers may search for terms such as Acrylic Aquarium, Acrylic Fish Tank, Custom Aquarium Builders, Acrylic Tank Manufacturing, Huge Aquarium, Large Fish Aquariums, or Acrylic Underwater Tunnel.

For these projects, LEYU's value is not limited to manufacturing acrylic sheets.

The Guangzhou Oceanarium case shows LEYU's ability to manufacture, process, transport, install, seal, and test large acrylic components as part of a complete engineering project.

What Makes LEYU’s Guangzhou Oceanarium Case Different?

The Guangzhou Oceanarium case is valuable because multiple acrylic technologies were brought together within one project.

LEYU did not simply manufacture one standard acrylic window.

The project required different solutions for different exhibition environments.

For the Rainforest Exploration area, LEYU produced large floor-to-ceiling flat acrylic viewing walls.

For Fantasy Realm, LEYU produced precision-polished acrylic structures for coral and jellyfish exhibitions, including curved windows and cylindrical tanks.

For Spirit Bay, LEYU customized a panoramic acrylic viewing wall for the 4,000 m³ dolphin pool.

For Future Ocean, LEYU supplied ultra-thick pressure-resistant viewing panels and completed the curved acrylic tunnel, oversized-panel joining, on-site installation, and hydrostatic pressure testing.

This makes the Guangzhou Oceanarium a genuine LEYU large-scale acrylic engineering case rather than a simple material supply project.

LEYU’s Vision for the Future of Acrylic Aquariums

Modern aquarium architecture is moving toward increasingly immersive visitor experiences.

Visitors want to walk through underwater tunnels, view marine animals from multiple directions, stand directly in front of large panoramic windows, and experience a stronger visual connection with the underwater environment.

Acrylic can help architects achieve these goals because it can be customized into large, curved, cylindrical, panoramic, and irregular structures.

For LEYU, the future of aquarium design is not simply about making larger fish tanks.

It is about creating better connections between people, architecture, water, and marine life.

The Guangzhou Oceanarium demonstrates how large acrylic engineering can become an important part of this process.
